Deveria, Achille Jacques Jean Marie

   Painter, lithographer, etcher, and stained glass designer. Trained under M. Lafitte and Girodet. Accredited with producing over 3000 lithographs. Started as a portrait artist, but soon turned to the mass production of inexpensive lithographs for the broader market. Considered the finest of fashion ad engravers. One of the most prolific of the erotic illustrators of the 19th century. Other erotic artists of the time worked in his style, so some works are attributed to the Circle of Deveria. Gained notoriety by illustrating the erotic novel Gamiani in 1833. His erotic depictions emphasized well-endowed women and lesbian scenes.
